Welcome to the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming

The Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming covers a region that stretches 97,818 miles across rugged mountains, high plains deserts, and fertile river valleys, serving over 7,000 Episcopalians and over 500,000 citizens of Wyoming (Wyoming is the 10th largest and least populated state). The spirit of the first homesteaders that settled in Wyoming is alive and well in the church, and has defined our worship community. The spirit of the rugged cowboy lives here, too: the need for wide, open space and the need to live and let live. The pioneer tradition of both is expressed through community. The first homesteaders gathered together out of necessity to survive the harsh Wyoming elements, but they also gathered for the basic human needs of friendship, fellowship, and worship. Since 1856, the Episcopal Church has been a part of Wyoming and continues to serve today. Information used to flow in and out of Wyoming through mail by stagecoach and wagon trains, the Pony Express, and later the railroad, telegraph and telephone. Now the Internet connects us not just to Wyoming, but the world, and at an instant. As we endeavor to live the Baptismal Promise, we remind ourselves in the languages of those in the world we serve: I will with God’s help.
